Gemmett Spaghetti Sauce

Mom: Nicole, what do you want for dinner?
Me: Spaghetti!
This is my Italian grandmother's recipe for spaghetti sauce. It has been handed down from my great grandmother, to my grandmother, to my mother, to me, and now to you!

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Cook 3lb sweet Italian sausage (with a little bit of olive oil) for 30 min
  2. Drain some oil, leave a little to cover bottom of pan
  3. Chop 3 cloves garlic
  4. Sautee garlic (until brown)
  5. Add 2 cans (28oz ea.) tomato puree
  6. Add 3 cans water (maybe more to get all out)
  7. Stir
  8. Add 2 cans crushed tomatoes
  9. Add 3 cans water (maybe more to get of the tomatoes out of the can)
  10. Stir
  11. Cover, let boil
  12. Add 30-36oz tomato paste
  13. 3 cans water
  14. Cover, let boil (make sure paste is melted)
  15. Add 2 tbsp sugar
  16. Add 8 leaves of basil (shake if basil flakes)
  17. Add sausage and let cook for at least 2 hours on low, stir constantly

Makes approximately 5 pints of sauce.
